Concrete Imaging For Reinforcing Steel Within Concrete Slabs - Tulsa, Oklahoma

When a General Contractor needed to drill into the concrete slabs to anchor a new air vent, Wade Vickers of GPRS-Oklahoma was contacted to mark out any existing reinforcing steel within the drilling locations in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The work consisted of scanning around each drilling location on the ceiling of the building. The GPR equipment is portable and able to be used on a ladder, or a lift of any kind, so it can be used on a ceiling, or a wall, as well as the floor. After a thorough GPR investigation was performed, the precise location and depths of the reinforcing steel were marked directly onto the surface using black marking crayon. The markings gave a clear indication of what lies beneath the surface. During the drilling process, the customer was able to avoid any reinforcing steel located within the slab, and maintain the structure’s integrity. Unlike x-ray/gamma ray, Ground Penetrating Radar is time efficient, non-hazardous and able to show real time results. The energy emitted is equivalent to 1% of a cell phone, therefore, the production of the construction site can continue without any radiation hazards. Also, the results are marked directly onto the surface without the need of film development.
