Before a home owner had a storm shelter installed in their garage, Wade Vickers of GPRS-Oklahoma was contacted to mark out the post-tension cables, and any reinforcing steel within the saw cutting area in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The work consisted of scanning each drilling location within the new construction. After a thorough GPR investigation was performed, the precise location and depths of the post-tension cables were marked directly onto the surface using black marking crayon. The markings gave a clear indication of what lies beneath the surface. If the customer would have drilled without GPRS, they would have hit multiple cables. During the drilling process, the customer was able to avoid any post-tension cables within the slab and maintain the structure’s integrity. The GPR equipment is also very portable, and is able to be moved up multiple floors and even on ceilings and walls. This was able to save the contractor money in repairs, as well as reducing the risk of endangering workers. Unlike x-ray/gamma ray, Ground Penetrating Radar is time efficient, non-hazardous and able to show real time results. The energy emitted is equivalent to 1% of a cell phone, therefore, the production of the construction site can continue without any radiation hazards. Also, the results are marked directly onto the surface without the need of film development.
